Why Lighting Is Everything
Lighting is the single most powerful tool in event design. The same room can feel like a cosy lounge, a romantic dinner venue or an energetic party hall depending purely on how it is lit. Understanding a few basics of lighting will transform everything you host.
Start with dimmers. If you have access to a dimmer switch on your main lights, use it to drop the brightness before guests arrive. Warm, soft light is universally flattering and immediately signals celebration. Add table lamps and floor lamps in corners to avoid harsh overhead brightness.
The Warmth of Candles
Candles bring something that electrical lighting cannot: a gentle flicker that makes a room feel alive. Group candles of different heights on trays or mirrors for an elegant centrepiece, and use pillars for dining tables and tealights for smaller spaces. Always place them safely away from anything flammable.
Fairy lights and LED strips are perfect for adding magic without any fire risk. Drape them across ceilings, around windows or inside clear vases. Pairing warm light with strong colours in your theme creates atmosphere that looks wonderful in person and in photographs.
