Learn how to make a balloon arch at home: choose the right balloons, build the garland and style it for any celebration.
A balloon arch instantly turns an ordinary room into a celebration. The good news is you can make one yourself in under an hour with a few simple supplies. This step-by-step tutorial shows you exactly how to make a balloon arch that looks professional but costs far less than hiring a decorator.
Pick two or three colours that match your theme. A mix of matte and metallic balloons adds depth and makes the arch look more expensive. Pastel palettes suit baby showers, while bold primary colours work beautifully for children’s birthdays.
Inflate balloons in three different sizes rather than all the same. Varying the sizes is the single biggest difference between an amateur-looking arch and a professional one. You can shop balloons here in a wide range of colours and sizes.
Thread the balloons through garland tape, alternating sizes and colours as you go. Keep the larger balloons at the front and tuck smaller ones into the gaps. Work in sections of about 50cm so the garland stays manageable.
Fix the garland to a wall, doorway or arch frame using command hooks or a weighted stand. Finish by tucking in ribbon, dried flowers or greenery to cover any gaps. Our party decorations range includes everything you need to complete the look.
Inflate balloons on the day of your event and keep the arch away from direct sunlight and sharp edges. A light mist of hairspray helps balloons hold their shine for longer.
